In a surprise move, Sony has just announced a concept electric vehicle that showcases the entertainment powerhouse’s strengths in terms of multi-media, camera’s and tech. Sony aims to disrupt the automotive market and seemingly beat Apple to the punch with this proof of concept.
Did Sony just beat Apple to the Punch?
Before you start saving up for an upcoming Sony car, they do not seem to be planning, at the moment, to sell the car or enter the automotive business. You won't be seeing a Playstation car model anytime soon.
The showcase was meant to flex Sony’s multi-media and technology by creating this proof of concept for the manufacturers. That doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t keep their toys out of the industry though, stranger things have happened before.

Sony aims to change the way we drive our cars
It may surprise most consumers regarding Sony’s shift to cars. But in the past few years, their strategy has led to being profitable in the technology providing sector. They supply camera modules for many smartphone brands and OEMs as well as perfecting their camera technology.
“This prototype embodies our contribution to the future of mobility,”
Says Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida.
The Sony Vision S has a sleek and sporty design
The exterior features a seemingly shooting break design with a less pronounced rear hatch. It has more than 30 sensors in and out of the vehicle and flaunts a large widescreen on the dash to provide infotainment for both driver and passenger. It also has 360-degree Reality Audio, an immersive audio experience coming from speakers that surround the car interior paired with the large panorama dash.
Sony has partnered with much other leading technology and automotive companies
Sony is collaborating with many industry giants from multiple fields such as Magna, Genetex, Continental, Bosch, Qualcomm for its Internet of Things compatibility and NVIDIA (yes that NVIDIA).
The Sony Vision S has multiple cameras to aid in Autonomous Driving
I can already imagine what the future of cars would be with Sony’s technology applied to our cars. Maybe this will be Sony’s next killer app or their next Playstation. We’ll keep you updated, so stay glued to Philkotse.com!
The Panoramic Screen on the Dash is just stunning
