2022 MG HS makes PH debut with turbo engine, 5-year warranty

MG, a brand primarily known for its crossovers, has brought in another one for the local market. This time, it’s the 2022 MG HS, a compact crossover that goes up against the likes of the Ford Territory.

So, what is this new MG like? Let’s take a closer look. 

Exterior 

Style-wise, the 2022 MG HS is a dead ringer for the smaller ZS. It uses the same design language, and it even comes with the same hawkish-looking LED headlamps, and the same side silhouette albeit larger.

Its quadrilateral grille however, comes with a more intricate silver-colored pattern. It also has a beefy lower bumper, which houses front foglamps.  

Size-wise, this MG model comes with a length of 4,574mm, a width of 1,876mm, and a height of 1,664mm. The HS then gets a set of 18-inch alloy wheels to wrap up its design.

Interior 

Inside, the HS compact crossover offers plenty of space for up to five occupants. It also gets a generously sized trunk, which is equipped with a pretty flat lip for ease of loading. Access to the trunk is also made even easier with its power liftgate. 

The front and rear cabin also come with plenty of soft touch surfaces. All of its seats are also wrapped in leather. Speaking of seats, the front ones come in the form of MG Sport Bucket seats, which offer additional bolstering.

Further driver-specific features include a flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a center armrest. 

Other interior bits in the 2022 MG HS also include a panoramic sunroof, an automatic dual-zone climate control system, ambient interior lighting, among others. 

Tech & Safety 

For standard safety gear, the new MG HS comes with what you’d expect from a modern crossover. It has anti-lock braking, stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, etc.  

Apart from those, it also features a tire-pressure monitoring system, blind-spot detection, hill-start assist, rear-cross traffic alert, among others. The all-new MG HS also gets a total of six airbags.

For entertainment, this new MG crossover is kitted out with a 10-inch touchscreen headunit. For connectivity, it gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and Bluetooth. It is then connected to a six-piece speaker system. 

The occupants of the HS also have access to 2 rear USB ports, 2 front USB ports, as well as a 12-volt charger. 

Engine & Performance 

The heart of the 2022 MG HS is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine. At the most, this four-banger can churn out 167 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. 

Power is then sent to its front wheels through a seven-speed wet-type dual clutch automatic gearbox. The said tranny also gets a Tiptronic manual mode.

For suspensions, the HS uses a Macpherson strut type front the front, and a multi-link suspension for the rear. Braking is then handled by disc brakes for all four wheels, as well as an electronic parking brake with auto hold. 

Pricing

The 2022 MG HS is available in two variants with a starting price of Php 1,158,888 while the top-of-the-line trim retails at Php 1,208,888. MG Philippines is offering five exterior colors for the HS, which are the following: Surfing Blue, Phantom Red, Maya Brown, Pearl Black, and Pearl White. 

The HS also comes with a five-year or 100,000 km warranty, whichever comes first. And of course, adopters of this new crossover model will also have access to the MG Hero services, which provides 24/7 roadside assistance. On top of that, there’s also the My MG mobile app, wherein customers can book vehicle service appointments with ease.
