MG Philippines adds another three-box model to its lineup with the arrival of the 2023 MG GT. Available in two variants, the new sedan’s formal entry in our market slightly raises its introductory price, now breaching the Php 1-million mark.
The 2023 MG GT has arrived in the Philippines
The MG GT is actually the second-generation MG 5 in China and Thailand. For the Philippines, the GT will be sold alongside the local-spec MG 5 which is a rebadge of the Roewe i5 subcompact sedan. Together with the MG 6, they comprise a sedan lineup to complement the automaker’s crossover range.
Exterior
The MG GT features dimensions of 4,675mm in length and 1,842mm in width on a 2,680mm wheelbase. Height is at 1,473mm for the base Alpha trim, slightly higher at 1,480mm for the Sport variant.
It brings an evidently sporty character to challenge the stalwarts in its class
In contrast with the MG 5’s more sedate appearance, the MG GT exudes a more athletic appeal thanks to the aggressive treatment on the fascia. Swept-back LED headlamps flank a wider ‘3D Digital Flame’ grille that transitions to prominent C-shaped intakes at the corners of the front bumper. The downward placement of the grille gives the impression of a longer hood, further adding to the vehicle’s sporty character.
Even the rear conveys motion while standing still
At the sides, the MG GT seems to adopt the fastback silhouette of the MG 6, resulting in a sleek roofline enhanced by the prominent crease above the rear haunches and a distinct kink just beyond the rear quarter glass. Surrounding the ducktail trunk is a pair of 3D LED racetrack tail lamps, while the rear bumper wears a sport diffuser integrating twin exhaust tips. A choice of 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels is available.
Interior
Inside, drivers will find themselves surrounded by a fighter jet-inspired cockpit while taking their positions on zero-gravity sport seats with lumbar support. Rear occupants will appreciate the generous cabin space, with room in the trunk for up to 401 liters of cargo.

lectric sunroof is standard across both MG GT variants, along with rear air-conditioning vents and a PM 2.5 air filter. The GT Sport comes with automatic climate control for even greater convenience.
Tech & Safety
Just beyond the leather-wrapped sport steering wheel lies a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This is complemented by a 10-inch touchscreen head unit that brings Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity.
Up to 401 liters of cargo can fit inside the trunk
Up to six airbags are available depending on trim level, while anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, electric parking brake, cornering brake control, and cruise control are standard. Moreover, the GT Sport brings additional driver-assist features such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and intelligent high-beam control.
Engine & Drivetrain
The MG GT comes with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine in two Euro 5-compliant versions. On the GT Alpha, this is a multi-point injection power unit that makes 111 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque, mated to a continuously variable transmission. The higher-spec GT Sport brings turbocharging and direct injection good for a potent 159 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, working with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
