Women’s World Car of the Year organization gets new name 

From 2024 onwards, the Women’s World Car of the Year will now be known as the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year. Its WWCOTY acronym as well as its iconic logo of a stylized woman motorist remains unchanged, but its new full name is representative of the organization’s larger international scope.

The WWCOTY now has representatives from 52 countries on all five continents. As such, replacing the word “World” with “Worldwide” is only appropriate. WWCOTY also says that this name change is its first step in a strategy for uniting the immensely diverse group of women drivers despite their differences in origin, culture, age, race, or creed. 

Of note, the Philippines already has a representative to the WWCOTY as of 2023. She is none other than Genevieve Tiu, a video producer for CarGuide.PH and a contributing writer to The Philippine Star. 

In total, the WWCOTY is made up of 75 professionals who provide crucial guidance for car buyers, automotive industry updates, and other car-related news via their media. It likewise has a massive cross-viewership count of over 500 million - far exceeding the expectations of its founders.

To this end, WWCOTY said that it is projected to grow even larger in 2024. It will continue to cover relevant news that will contribute in “increasing the visibility of women in the automotive industry,” and will reward the best cars and the best initiatives as well. 

For those unfamiliar, the WWCOTY holds a yearly awards ceremony that honors certain cars in various categories. It is the only awards group comprised solely of women motoring journalists and it aims to give women a voice in the automotive world. 

Last year, the WWCOTY heralded the Ford Ranger as the winner for its “Best 4x4 & Pick-up” category. The Kia Niro also won the “Best Urban Model” award, the Nissan X-Trail for the “Best Large SUV” award, and the Jeep Avenger for the “Best Family SUV” award, among others.
