Volkswagen PH releases more color options on mystery model

The hues seem to reflect a crossover that’s already sold here.

Volkswagen Philippines seems keen preserving the mystery behind its upcoming model while unraveling the secret a little bit by presenting it in a variety of colorways.

Volkswagen Philippines' upcoming model is hinted to be coming in other eye-catching colors as well

On its Facebook page, the automaker posted an animated image of what looks like a crossover, showing it in a palette of exterior colors alternating on a standing shot of the vehicle. The only other element shown is the Volkswagen logo at the bottom right corner.

This is accompanied by a brief caption, “Fresh hues for the color in you,” a slightly reworded version of the original statement that went with the previous teaser image uploaded by Volkswagen Philippines. This time, it hints at more than one color that the new vehicle will be wearing.

The company responds to comments asking for details with the standard reply of a personal message sent to the inbox, which is nothing more than a link to the Volkswagen Philippines website sent by an automated chat bot. This has the effect of heightening the mystery even more.

Volkswagen T-Cross colors

The colors correspond to those already offered on the Philippine-spec T-Cross, with the addition of a possible blue hue

A close look at the model, however, and it becomes evident that the model is already offered in Volkswagen’s local lineup. We’re talking about the T-Cross, as the model in the teaser image already sports the subcompact crossover’s fascia from the LED headlamps to the fog lamps within the distinctive front bumper design. Even the faux skid plate is evident despite being obscured by shadows.

The colors portrayed in the image directly correspond to the available colors of the PH-spec T-Cross, namely Romance Red, Polar White, Chinchilla Gray, Tribu, and Syringia Violet. What can be gleaned from the social media post is that the T-Cross may soon offer a blue-based hue as a sixth color option.

But there could be other tweaks in store. The Philippine-market T-Cross is currently sourced from China, and the model sold there recently underwent a slight update for the 2023 model year. These include alloy wheels and exterior mirror caps rendered in black, apart from a checkered flag motif on the D-pillar. Interior lighting has been shifted to LEDs for a better ambience and improved energy efficiency.

Volkswagen T-Cross

Volkswagen recently updated the T-Cross for the Chinese market (PH model shown)

Under the hood, the China-spec T-Cross now runs on a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine, driving the front wheels with 148 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This is a definite step up from the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated motor we get that makes 111 horsepower and 145 Nm of twist, partnered with a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission.

Volkswagen Philippines will have to reveal which model will be included in its lineup soon, before curiosity gets the better of everyone.
