Volkswagen Philippines is looking to close the year by bringing back to customers through cash discounts and flexible payment schemes. One of the models that could be your next road partner coming into the holiday season is the Lamando.
Volkswagen Lamando
Up for grabs until December 31, 2022, the two Volkswagen Lamando variants come with a cash discount of Php 125,000 each. This means that the 280 TSI DSG SE and 280 TSI DSG SEL are offered with discounted suggested retail prices (SRPs) of Php 1,494,000 and Php 1,628,000, respectively.
For the price, you get to drive an executive-looking compact sedan with standard features such as LED headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a panoramic sunroof, and 17-inch alloys. Opt for the top-spec SEL and you get interior amenities including leather sport seats with perforation, a larger 9.2-inch head unit, and heater functions for the front seats.
A 1.4-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine is standard across the board, making 148 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. It sends power to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG transmission, which is the German car brand’s version of a dual-clutch gearbox. For a more relaxing drive, the Lamando SEL offers Adaptive Cruise Control.
The biggest model in VW Philippines' three-sedan lineup
One of the reasons why you should consider the Lamando as per Volkswagen Philippines is its unified global engineering. It means that every Volkswagen vehicle in the country bears the same quality build as those produced in VW’s global headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. This includes units produced at its three other global manufacturing and assembly hubs in China, Brazil, and India.
If you don’t fancy paying in full, the Volkswagen Lamando is also available with monthly amortization deals for as low as Php 26,668 and Php 29,250 for the SE and SEL, respectively. The Volkswagen Lamando was launched in the Philippine market in 2019. There are two variants available: the base variant, Comfortline, and the top-of-the-line variant which is the Highline. The Lamando serves as Volkswagen’s entry into the compact sedan category. In typical Volkswagen fashion though, it is decked with more premium interior and exterior finishes and safety features versus its competitors. The compact sedan is powered by a turbocharged gasoline engine attached to a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Volkswagen Lamando Exterior
Both the Comfortline and the Highline variants sport the same exterior style and design that is sleek and timeless with the signature Volkswagen touch. It comes with a sunroof and LED daytime running lights. All headlamps and taillights are powered by LED bulbs. The Lamando rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with 225/50 series tires that add to the car’s overall classic aesthetic.
Volkswagen Lamando Interior
The interior of the Volkswagen Lamando, much like the exterior, is clean and simple. It is decked in a beige and black color palette with plastic accents. Car seats of both the Comfortline and Highline variants are upholstered in black leather.
Technology & Safety
Each of the Lamando’s variants comes with different Infotainment systems. The base Comfortline variant has an 8-inch touchscreen headunit, while the top-of-the-line Highline variant is decked with a 9.2-inch touchscreen monitor. Both variants are easily connectable to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB, CD, Aux-in, and SD cards. Audio comes out through an 8-speaker sound system.
The compact sedan is packed with safety features in various aspects of the vehicle. It comes with a 2-zone climatronic air conditioning system that provides cooling and heating capabilities in both the driver’s and passenger’s sides. Attached to the AC system is a pollen filter which ensures a cleaner cabin.
Additional safety features incorporated in the Lamando Highline variant are front and rear parking sensors and a push start button. Both variants, on the other hand, have tire pressure monitoring systems and cruise control. For added comfort, the seats are electronically adjustable.
Platform & Chassis
The Lamando sits on the Volkswagen-exclusive MQB platform. Its 1.4L turbocharged engine is attached to a 7-speed DSG gearbox with automatic transmission which directs its power towards the front wheels.
The McPherson strut suspension remains at the front while an independent four-link suspension is at the rear. As for brakes, both Lamando variants are equipped with front-ventilated discs and rear discs.
Engine & Drivetrain
Both variants of the Volkswagen Lamando are powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, in-line, gasoline engine with BlueMotion Technology. It produces 148 hp and 250 Nm of torque. This compact sedan is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100kph in 8.5 seconds at a peak speed of 210km/h.
However, there is a slight turbo lag when running at lower RPM’s. Its 7-speed DSG transmission finds it difficult to move from a standstill, which poses a negative effect when driving in traffic. In higher acceleration drives, the Lamando responds better and quicker. The electrically assisted steering becomes light at slower speeds and tight in more spirited drives. It is more composed in fast drives, seemingly like a sporty sedan.
