UK-based Twisted Automotive gives this mini off-roader a power upgrade.

Twisted Automotive, a UK-based Land Rover Defender specialist, has introduced its conversion kits for the Suzuki Jimny that adds a turbocharger. This is a first for the company considering it has worked on Land Rover Defender for the longest time.

Like the PH-spec Jimny, the build uses a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine. But thanks to the addition of a Garrett turbocharger, the mill now churns out 165 horsepower, which is a significant increase from the stock output of 100 hp. It is also fitted with a blow-off valve, giving a JDM-like driving experience.

The company also converts combustion-engined cars to electric power. But for now, a turbocharged Jimny is the sole conversion option from the UK-based firm.

Exterior-wise, the mini off-roader is installed with a body-colored grille and side mirrors, a performance suspension system with Bilstein shock absorbers, a rear anti-roll bar, and Twister exterior badging. The off-roader is also fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain 215/70R16 tires.

Unlike the stock Jimny that gets a black interior, this particular build gets a plusher finish with a two-tone finish. The cabin is also equipped with an upgraded double DIN infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay.

Another feature added to the vehicle is an extensive soundproofing system. This aims to provide passengers with a more comfortable cabin experience.

“It was so important to ensure we adhered to our Twisted ethos with this brilliant little 4x4. Our focus therefore has been on power, handling, and refinement,” said Twisted Automotive.

Twisted Automotive is offering the turbocharged Jimny for a starting price of £49,500 or around Php 3.5 million in current exchange rates. That is almost thrice the price of the Jimny from the factory.

For reference, Suzuki Philippines, Inc. is currently offering the stock Jimny with a price that ranges from Php 1,258,000 for the base GL to Php 1,320,000 for the GLX. The latter is available with a two-tone option for an additional Php 1,330,000.

Suzuki Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny 2023 is a 4x4, ladder-frame mini-SUV. In the local market, this model is available in three different variants. There’s the GL 1.5 MT, the GLX 1.5 AT (Monotone), and the GLX 1.5 AT (Two-tone). Their prices range from Php 1,258,000 to Php 1,330,000.

Under the hood, the Suzuki Jimny uses a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine capable of producing up to 101 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque. The entry-level GL variant may come with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the GLX exclusively uses a four-speed automatic transmission. All then come with the Suzuki 4x4 All Grip Pro drivetrain.

Size-wise, the Suzuki Jimny has a length of 3,480mm, a width of 1,645mm, and a height of 1,725mm. It then has a wheelbase length of 2,250mm, and a ground clearance of 210mm.

Locally, the Suzuki Jimny technically doesn’t have direct competitors. Then again, the closest off-road-focused recreational vehicles available locally are the Toyota FJ Cruise and the Jeep Wrangler. Size-wise though, the Jimny is more in line with the Hyundai Kona, MG ZS, Geely Coolray, Kia Seltos, Chery Tiggo 2 Pro, and Mazda CX-3, among others.
