The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that traffic was manageable during the first day of face-to-face classes.

MMDA Traffic Engineering Center chief Neomie Recio confirmed through a report in the Philippine Star that traffic congestion was manageable along major roads in Metro Manila. Recio noted that the expected vehicle volume was not reached, which contributed to making traffic manageable.
The agency reported traffic congestion in areas near two schools in the National Capital Region (NCR). The MMDA said that traffic buildup was observed at the Atene de Manila University in Quezon City, and De La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong. Despite the buildup, the MMDA shared that traffic in the two areas has been managed in less than an hour.
Slow-moving traffic was also seen along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, specifically on the southbound lane. Photos of the traffic situation in the said area circulated online Monday morning, showing that the avenue was packed with bumper-to-bumper vehicles.
As of this writing, the MMDA has not yet released a report about the traffic situation along EDSA yesterday, August 22. The MMDA decided to expand the number coding scheme since the agency is expecting EDSA vehicle volume to surpass the pre-pandemic level as the face-to-face classes return.
The MMDA expects vehicle volume on EDSA to go above 436,000
The MMDA previously released that vehicle volume on EDSA is expected to go beyond 436,000 as classes start once again. This prompted the agency to add number coding during the morning rush or peak hours, which is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The number coding hours resume from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Speaking of such, the MMDA said that 226 motorists were apprehended violating the number coding scheme yesterday.
The agency noted that the expanded number coding scheme will reduce traffic by 20 percent during the morning and afternoon/evening hours.
