This tiny electric vehicle could debut in 2025.

Toyota and Suzuki are said to be collaborating to develop a tiny crossover that will slot into the subcompact market. For Toyota, the model will be the smallest electric vehicle (EV) in the bZ series. Suzuki meanwhile, will reportedly rebadge the model into its first-ever production EV.

The upcoming subcompact EV will fall within Toyota bZ lineup of EVs

This comes from Japan-based Best Car Web which went on to say that it might be seeing a 2025 release date. Do note though that this is a different crossover from the one Toyota teased on X (formerly Twitter). This, as mentioned, is likely a subcompact, while the yet-to-be-revealed model teased via social media has been noted to be a compact model larger than the Toyota Corolla Cross

The upcoming subcompact EV, according to the source, will also be using the new e-Toyota New Global Architecture platform (TNGA). Suzuki, on the other hand, might be stepping in to assist in its development as it specializes in small cars.

Suzuki could also be releasing the subsequent production version it is co-developing with Toyota as the final version of the 2025 Suzuki eVX. The eVX, as of the moment, is still a concept that was initially revealed at the start of the year at the Auto Expo India.

Remember that a Toyota-Suzuki collab is nothing new. Previously, it was revealed that the two brands are working on a sports car that’s rumored to be lighter than the Mazda MX-5. Toyota likewise released a rebadged version of the Suzuki Ertiga, while Suzuki rolled out an RAV4-based hybrid called the Across back in 2021.

Other than what was mentioned, specifications for the upcoming model are yet to be released by Toyota or Suzuki. That said though, reports are saying that this EV could fit into the demands of the Japanese and European markets - regions where buyers have a widespread acceptance of small city-going cars.

It would not be a stretch though to see this tiny EV reach Philippine shores as well. This is because it is clear to see on our roads that many Filipinos also prefer small rides like the Toyota Raize, Toyota Wigo, Suzuki Celerio, Suzuki Swift, etc.

As with any car rumor that’s said to be confirmed by the brands themselves, do take what was mentioned about the upcoming EV crossover with a grain of salt. Better yet, keep it here on Philkotse for more updates.
