In the first six months of 2017, the plug-in cars total sales were nearly 450,000 units, recording a 41% increase year-over-year. Thus, if everything goes as planned, this figure would amount to seven digits before the year ends.
As expected, the Toyota Prius Prime snatched the title away from the Nissan LEAF to become the best-selling models worldwide with 26,867 deliveries thanks to massive sales in Japan and the US.

In June, the Tesla Model S also achieved an optimistic result with more than 6,150 units sold. Meanwhile, sales of the Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model X were 4,647 and 4,684 respectively.

In the tough carmaker race, Tesla left BMW behind with 10,841 vehicles delivered to top the chart. However, the German luxury brand saw a noticeable turnaround with 8,815 plug-in units marketed. Despite the success of the Prius, Toyota just took the fifth place in this race, following the BYD, BAIC and Nissan.
