Toyota has unveiled another all-electric van concept for the 2023 Japan Mobility Show called the Kayoibako - a Japanese word referring to configurable shipping containers that safely and efficiently transport parts.
Toyota Kayoibako
The new Kayoibako gets an “ultra-expandable” design that allows the vehicle to be tailored for different uses. The hardware and software can also be customized for different purposes.
Exterior-wise, the vehicle sports a boxy body with a high wraparound window for the cabin. It measures 3,990 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, and 1,855 mm high, and features a wheelbase rated at 2,800. Meanwhile, the interior has a length of 3,127 mm, a width of 1,485 mm, and a height of 1,437 mm.
Toyota is bringing a highly customizable concept
According to Toyota, the Kayoibako concept can provide social infrastructure solutions like serving as a low-volume goods mobility partner. It can also be fitted with shelves which is suitable for turning the vehicle into a mobile shop. What’s more is that the automaker can configure the vehicle as a shuttle bus.
The concept will can likewise function as a personal transport which can be configured according to a customer’s tastes and preferences. Toyota will bolster its “mobility for all” commitment by commissioning designs that enable easier access for wheelchair users.
One versatile EV
The Japanese carmaker will reveal the Kayoibako concept at the said auto happening from October 25 to November 4 at the Tokyo Big Sight in Japan. The versatile vehicle will be joined by other Toyota concepts including the IMV 0, FT-3e SUV, FT-Se, X-Van Gear, and Vellfire Spacious Lounge. Also part of the show will be the HiAce concept – an all-electric concept version of the long-time running nameplate with a one-seater cabin and loads of cargo space.
Luxury arm Lexus will be bringing a lineup of next-gen EV concepts including one that reminds us of the electric sports car revealed last year. Meanwhile, Toyota’s small car division, Daihatsu, is also arriving at the show with a wide array of concepts like the Vision Copen.
