This peppy PHEV crossover boasts a maximum range of 1,400 km.

At the 18th Beijing International Auto Show (Auto China), Chery unveiled the all-new Tiggo 9 plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV). This is the new model’s global launch, and it now stands as the brand’s new flagship offering in its home market of China.

Appearance-wise, the Tiggo 9 PHEV crossover boasts a refined take on the familiar Tiggo design. It gets a closed-off octagonal grille, a flat bonnet, and smooth character but distinct character lines running along its side. It also has a slick rear end with an LED light bar spanning its width.

Completing the looks of the all-new Tiggo 9 PHEV is a set of 20-inch wheels. It is also kitted out with sharp-looking LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, a panoramic sunroof, and plenty of black-colored exterior bits.

Inside, the Tiggo 9 PHEV features a tech-heavy front cabin equipped with a 15.6-inch 2.5K high-definition touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets what Chery calls “3D stitched” seats. These are wrapped in leather as is most of the vehicle’s interior surfaces.

No full features list has been released for this new Chery model just yet, but we are speculating that it also gets a comprehensive advanced driver assist (ADAS) suite.

The highlight of the Tiggo 9 PHEV however, is its 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission that’s paired with Chery’s 3DHT electric motor.

On its own, the combustion unit of the Tiggo 9 PHEV can produce up to 235 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque. The 3DHT motor meanwhile, adds a further 220 hp.

Thanks to its powertrain, the Tiggo 9 PHEV has a Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) maximum range of 1,400 kilometers. It can also return up to 19.23 km/liter.

According to Chery, the all-new Tiggo 9 PHEV’s global selling period will start in the fourth quarter of 2024. On that note, we’re keeping our fingers crossed in the hopes that this promising model reaches the Philippine market as well.
