Vehicle taxes and traffic mess is discussed during SONA 2017.
President Duterte delivered his report on the state of the Philippines a year after he took office at 2017 State of the Nation Address (SONA) held at the headquarter of the House of Representatives in Quezon City.
 
Duterte said the rising traffic congestion jump in our country is one of the terrible things the Filipino dwellers have to face.

President Duterte delivered his report on the state of the Philippines a year after he took office at 2017 State of the Nation Address (SONA)

Duterte praised Arthur Tugade – the current Department of Transportation (DOTr) Head for his good work. The President also added that Tugade was graduated as the valedictorian of his law class.
 
The President continued by ordering traffic enforces including local government units and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to ensure the free flow of traffic along the metro’s streets. These organizations have to make sure that all road and major thoroughfares must be kept clear of obstructions, for safety reasons.
 
On taxes, the President stressed that the Tax Reform Program still seeks to increase excise taxes on fuel and automobiles.

Duterte pointed out that the tax increase in vehicle and fuel is necessary to fund his full 2018 budget proposal. “The poor and vulnerable are at the heart of my tax reform. Your full support will ensure that the benefits of the tax reform can be felt immediately by them”, he shared.

In the meantime, the President also orders the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Department of Finance (DOF) to run after tax evaders and enhance tax administration.
