Former BYD distributor shifts focus on dealership operations

Solar Transport announced that it will shift its focus to being a dealer of BYD electric vehicles (EVs).

To recap, Solar Transport is the former distributor of BYD in the country. AC Motors, the automotive arm of Ayala Corporation, now assumes the role, and the new partnership looks to expand electrification in the country.

The first order of business will be inaugurating its new 4,000-sqm flagship dealership located along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City. It will be built with two floors, a full-service center, and a grand showroom, which will display the brand’s EV lineup.

“It has been a mission of Solar Transport since a decade ago to ensure that we invest in the environment so that we could all have a sustainable future,” said Solar Transport and Automotive Resources President and CEO Mark Andrew Tieng.

Included in the Philippine lineup are the Dolphin, Han, and Tang EVs. While the pricing has yet to be unveiled, the BYD Dolphin is promised to be one of the most affordable all-electric cars in the country. Specs-wise, the hatchback EV has a range of 400 km and a 130 km/h top speed.

Soon to join the lineup will be BYD Atto 3. BYD Philippines has yet to disclose any details about the PH-spec model. But looking at the global model, the Chinese automaker claims the electric compact crossover has a WLTP-rated range of 420 km and can go from zero to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

“With BYD’s stronger presence in the Philippines, we hope to contribute to helping build the EV infrastructure in the country, so that more roads will be greener and more motorists transition to rely on fossil fuels,” said Tieng.

Aside from the upcoming Quezon Avenue dealership, Solar Transport will continue operating the brand’s Makati outlet. The company also assures each BYD EV will be coming with an extensive battery warranty coverage of eight years or 150,000 km.
