Impressive for a non-volume manufacturer.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced that it set a new record for annual sales in 2022 with 6,021 sold units.

The sales record is the highest for the British luxury car brand in its 118-year history, which is up by eight percent in the same period in 2021. That is an impressive feat considering that the brand isn’t a volume manufacturer. It also runs bespoke commissions that continue to grow globally.

“2022 has been a momentous year for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Not only did we reveal Rolls-Royce Spectre, our marque’s first ever fully-electric series model to the world, it was also the first year we ever delivered more than 6,000 cars in a single 12-month period, with strong demand across our entire product portfolio,” said Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Torsten Müller-Ötvös.

The U.S. remains the largest single region for Rolls-Royce, followed by China where significant successes in Shanghai and Beijing are recorded. Regions such as Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East achieved higher sales, with the Middle East crowned as the marque’s leading region for bespoke commissions.

2022 was a remarkable year for Rolls-Royce

As Müller-Ötvös mentioned, Rolls-Royce is conforming to the industry’s shift to electric vehicles (EVs) with the unveiling of the Spectre last October 2022. According to the sales report, the new luxurious EV has exceeded Rolls-Royce’s pre-order expectations, which should set the brand up for greater sales performance upon the start of its deliveries in Q4 2023.

The brand chief also recognized the works of the team at Rolls-Royce’s head office at Goodwood and regional offices for contributing to a record-setting year. This coincides with Goodwood’s 20th anniversary, which is said to “confirm Rolls-Royce Motor Cars as a great British success story.”

“But none of this would be possible without our extraordinary team at Goodwood, and in our regional offices around the world – our global Rolls-Royce family. Their contribution extends beyond their exceptional skills, talents, knowledge, and experience,” added Müller-Ötvös.

Rolls-Royce started as an electrical and mechanical company established by Henry Royce in 1884. He created his first motor vehicle in 1904, the Royce 10. In the same year, Royce met Charles Rolls who owned a company that sold high quality automobiles in London. The two came to an agreement that Royce Limited would manufacture vehicles to be exclusively marketed by CS Rolls & Co. Thus, Rolls-Royce was born.
