This is to make way for the Pride March kick-off ceremony.

The Quezon City Government has announced that motorists should expect heavy traffic on Tandang Sora Avenue, Philand Drive, and Visayas Drive on June 10, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

According to the local government unit’s official Facebook post regarding this matter, the slow traffic during the said dates is connected to the District 6 Pride March Kick-off ceremony.

As per its name, the event will involve simultaneous foot parades that will pass through the three thoroughfares mentioned above. These marches will then assemble at the main stage located in front of Pares Retiro on 340 Visayas Ave, Tandang Sora Market. A program is then expected to take place at the said location.

Affected barangays listed in the post include Unang Sigaw, Balonbato, Apolonio Samson, Baesa, Pasnong Tamo, Culiat, New Era, Sauyo, Tandang Sora, and Sandandaan. To this end, the QC government is advising motorists to look for alternative routes.

The aforementioned march signals the start of this year’s Pride Month event. For those unfamiliar with the annual event that takes place in June, it mainly involves members and supporters of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) community.

The aim of the month-long celebration is to advance the social and self-acceptance of LGBTQIA+ members, LGBTQIA+ legal rights, same-sex marriage rights, etc. It likewise celebrates the skills, talents, and achievements of the community’s members.

The last pride parade in celebration of Pride Month was held at the Quezon City Memorial Circle back in June 2022 with the theme: “Alab For Love” (burning for love).

Thankfully, the said event looks like it won’t be imposing total road closures. This contrasts with the upcoming Independence Day celebration activities that will be held on June 12, 2023. This, in turn, necessitates the temporary closures of a section of Roxas Boulevard and other nearby roads.
