The toll company continues to make its roads safer.

SFEX is undergoing a massive improvement project

With P105 million worth of upgrades, the SFEX is expected to provide improved services to motorists. The enhancements that aim to strengthen the expressway’s safety include pavement surface upgrade, construction of ditch and slope protection, installation of rail guards, and application of hazard paint.

“We aim to make our roads safer for all weather conditions. With these enhancements, we expect to further protect motorists from roadside hazards by strengthening the slopes and improving the draining system and other safety features at the SFEX,” said NLEX Corporation President J. Luigi L. Bautista.

The pavement upgrades will help drain water away from the roadway between Jadjad and Argonaut bridges. A wire mesh is being installed and concrete is being applied on a 1.8-sqm portion of the SFEX to stabilize the slopes and prevent erosion. Concrete barriers and other structures are painted with hazard warning marking to warn motorists about the potential risks on the road.

Safety is number one in NLEX Corporation's books

These improvements follow the P1.6 billion expansion project made on SFEX last February 2021. Among the expansion works are the addition of a new 16.4-km lane, two new bridges, and a new tunnel. NLEX Corporation managed to complete the expansion amid the pandemic which helps accelerate business activities between economic zones in Clark and Subic.

In related news, NLEX Corporation has been bolstering the structure of the Candaba Viaduct to improve safety. The upgrade works, which are expected to take about six months, include the installation of 13 new link slabs. To manage traffic, the toll road company deployed traffic marshals to help guide motorists toward alternate routes.
