The Tokyo E-Prix is scheduled to kick off on March 30, 2024.

Formula E Operations Ltd, the organizers of the FIA-certified all-electric Formula E racing series, has chosen Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. as its official partner for the first-ever Tokyo E-Prix.

While Tokyo was one of the first-ever cities contacted by Formula E to become the home of one of its races, it wasn’t until a decade later that it was given the green light to proceed. Now in 2024, the said race is scheduled this coming March 30 and it will be held around a street circuit that loops around Tokyo Big Sight.

In total, the Tokyo E-Prix race track is 2.58 kilometers long with a total of 18 turns. It features a total of three long straights, a series of tight technical turns, as well as “high-speed combinations.” With all that said, the organizers are hoping that this can deliver blood-pumping racing action.

Apart from that track itself, it is also touted to be a picturesque site with Tokyo’s metropolitan backdrop in view. It is also conveniently located only a few minutes away from the Japanese capital’s downtown area.

For those unfamiliar, the FIA Formula E World Championship is an open-wheel single-seater motorsports championship just like the famous Formula 1 series. But as per its name, Formula E exclusively involves fully electric race cars.

Nissan was one of the first Japanese contenders in this race series when it entered back in Season 5 (2018 to 2019). With its partnership with Formula E for the Tokyo E-Prix, the brand is now in a better position to showcase its EV know-how and also elevate its position in EV performance.

“Nissan is excited to partner with Formula E for the historic maiden Tokyo E-Prix. This collaboration is more than a race, it’s a celebration of innovation and sustainability that resonates with our vision for a cleaner, more exciting future,” said Nissan Foruma E Team Principal and Managing Director Tommaso Volpe.

“We’re proud to bring this experience to Tokyo and to contribute Nissan’s pioneering spirit to the world of electric motorsport,” Volpe added.
