It will utilize a fully-electric powertrain.

The Mini hatchback is set to come out in its fifth-generation form for 2023, first with the 3-door model. It will be offered with a fully-electric powertrain, demonstrating the British automaker’s efforts in expanding sustainability in its lineup.

Next-gen Mini 3-door

As part of the BMW Group, Mini took the chance to do warm-up laps for its 3-door model at the group’s winter test center in Arjeplog, Sweden. The iconic hatchback drove around the testing center in the brand’s good old yellow camouflage where extreme conditions must be conquered before it goes into production.

Under packed snow and ice, test engineers can tune the power development of the electric motor, optimize traction, refine the suspension, and examine the steering behavior. Moreover, Mini guarantees that the 3-door version will be coming out with plenty of room in the cabin as part of its creative use of space.

No exact specifications have been disclosed just yet. But the company said that the next-gen model will still utilize the “go-kart” driving experience, a feature that gave the model its identity. It will also be offered with an internal combustion engine to meet different market demands.
