The next-gen Apple CarPlay promises customizable digital gauge clusters

Of note, this was revealed during the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference which started on June 6, 2022 and runs until June 10, 2022.

So what can the new Apple CarPlay do? Well, it offers a lot actually. For starters, the next-gen CarPlay system can now integrate with the car’s digital gauge cluster. Through this, a driver now has the power to customize their instrument panel.

Apple intends for this to fit seamlessly into a myriad of gauge cluster shapes and configurations. Even multi-screen setups like those setups that are becoming increasingly common on high-end luxury vehicles will be taken into consideration.

In fact, this upgraded version of the Apple CarPlay can allow users to tune the radio or change the settings of one’s automatic climate without going out of the CarPlay system.

The home screen of the new CarPlay system will also feature widgets that look like the ones found on the Apple iPad, whilst providing more in the way of customizability. This means that the next-gen CarPlay is now more connected to vehicle electronics. To this end, this new version won’t be rolled out until 2023 at the earliest.

Beyond those three, it was also confirmed that Renault, Volvo, Audi, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, Polestar, and Infinity are also on-board with this CarPlay update.
