While Hyundai’s highlight at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) was the preview of the Ioniq 6, the brand had another preview model that could potentially make some noise in its respective segment.

The model we’re talking about is the Hyundai Stargazer with a new six-seater option. In the compact MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) category, a six-seater option is considered a unique configuration, making the new variant a compelling entry.
No official details have been disclosed as of this writing. But the main feature this model has over the current offerings is the captain’s seats in the second row, replacing the bench-type seats that can accommodate three passengers.
Passengers who will sit in the second row get to enjoy their own center armrest. Meanwhile, the person sitting on the right will benefit from a pop-up tray, which is also available in the 7-seater Stargazer variants.

One can expect that the 6-seater variant will become the new flagship variant of the Korean MPV. That said, amenities from the current top-spec GLS Premium should be carried over to the upcoming variant.
These include leatherette seats, 50:50 split-folding third-row seats, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4-speaker system with two tweeters, a remote engine start, a smart key system, a wireless charger, and two additional USB charging points in the second row.
Moreover, the full suite of Hyundai Smartsense Technology including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) and Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) is expected to be made available in the new variant.

Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc. (HMPH) has yet to disclose the pricing as well. But considering that the 6-seater variant will likely top the range, the price should sit a little above the price of the GLS Premium at Php 1,288,000.
The 6-seater Hyundai Stargazer is expected to be formally launched before the year ends.

Hyundai Stargazer Launch
The all-new Hyundai Stargazer was officially launched in the local market on October 19, 2022. Its global debut happened earlier back in August 2022, at the 29th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.
As of its local launch, the Stargazer has three variants available locally.
Hyundai Stargazer Exterior
The all-new Stargazer borrows several styling cues from the larger Staria. Depending on the trim, it comes with LED exterior lighting, electronic folding side mirrors, automatic light control, and a set of 16-inch wheels.
Hyundai Stargazer Interior
Inside the 2024 Stargazer are seats for seven occupants. Higher-spec trims come with leatherette seats, leather-wrapped steering wheels, a digital gauge cluster, a console box, and seat back pockets, among others.
All three trims come standard with a 60:40 split-folding second row, a 50:50 split-folding third row, and room lamp, and an overhead console.
Other driving features present on this Hyundai model include a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a push-to-start button, remote engine starting, and plenty of USB charging ports.
Technology & Safety Features
Present on both the top-spec GLS Premium and GLS is an eight-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This headunit is then linked to a six-piece speaker system. A wireless charging pad is also available for the top-spec GLS Premium variant.
All variants come with dual-front airbags and anti-lock braking. The GLS and GLS Premium, in turn, get the addition of stability control, rearview monitor, rear parking sensors, and hill-start assist.
Only the GLS Premium comes with side and curtain airbags, blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear-cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, lake keeping assist, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance assist, tire pressure monitoring, lane following assist, etc.
Hyundai Stargazer Platform
The Hyundai Stargazer utilizes the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform which it shares with the Creta 2024 crossover Philippines.
It then assumes a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. Handling suspension for this model is a MacPherson strut type for the front, and a torsion beam-type suspension for the rear. All trims then get a disc front brake, a drum rear brake, and a hand-operated parking brake.
Hyundai Stargazer Engine
Under the hood of all three locally available Stargazer variants is a 1.5-liter engine paired to Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission. Power is then fed to its front wheels.
With this configuration, it can make up to 113 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque.
Comparison
The Hyundai Stargazer is one of the better-equipped MPVs when it comes to driver-assist features. It also has a competent and relatively modern entertainment system with wireless connectivity and wireless charging capabilities. Most similarly sized MPVs available locally lack those two features.
