The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) wants to further strengthen the tourism industry in Siargao Island by providing new infrastructures. The agency announced that three new bridges have been inaugurated in Siargao, a place known for having one of the best surfing spots in the Philippines.

The DPWH, along with President Rodrigo Duterte, inaugurated the three-point bridge system in Dapa, Siargao Island. The Php 848 million project includes three bridges that are said to benefit tourism activities by providing an unhampered and convenient travel experience among the island’s visitors.
The new bridge network is also expected to enhance the accessibility and mobility of people, goods, and services in the country’s world-renowned surfing paradise.

The three-point bridge system in Siargao consists of the following: 348.8-meter Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge, 75.8-meter Libertad Bridge 1, and 36.8-meter Libertad Bridge 2. The said bridge system is located at the 11.8-kilometer road that spans from Dapa Port to Gen. Luna (Dapa Port–Consuelo-Corazon –Sta. Cruz–Sta. Fe–Libertad–Cabitoonan Catangnan–Gen. Luna).

The DPWH added that the Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge is aesthetically designed, and it is built along the new alternate route from Dapa Port. It links the villages of Catangnan and Cabitoonan. This bridge also offers sunset views, and it is poised to provide added road travel attraction in Siargao Island.
Aside from the three-point bridge system, the DPWH completed other projects that support the sports development program in Siargao. The agency was able to complete the construction of multi-purpose buildings with a basketball gym as well as volleyball and badminton indoor courts. The said facilities are located within the 6.3-hectare Siargao Sports Complex. In addition, the Siargao Sports High School Building was also among the completed projects on the said island.
The new bridge network in Siargao Island is part of the many infrastructure projects under the DPWH. Last September 2021, the agency also announced the partial opening of the Lucban bypass road in Quezon Province.

Although now accessible to motorists, the 4-lane Lucban bypass road is not yet fully completed. DPWH Quezon 1st District Engineer Chymbelin Ibal said that there are still remaining works to be finished such as the installation of street lights as well as the completion of drainage, and sidewalk.
Former DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the agency is targeting to fully complete the Lucban bypass road by the first quarter of 2022.
