The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has teamed up with Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) to further boost the agency’s Motorcycle Riding Academy (MRA). The MMDA’s MRA is formed to provide riders with formal training on both theoretical and practical aspects of motorcycle riding. The MRA will also give its participants basic emergency response training.

The MMDA and HPI signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) where the Japanese company commits to providing technical assistance to trainers or instructors of the agency’s MRA.
MMDA acting chairman Romando “Don” Artes said that the partnership with HPI will enhance the agency’s motorcycle training modules, which is seen to boost the agency’s Motorcycle Riding Academy.
“This collaboration will enhance the agency’s Motorcycle Training Modules. The HPI will likewise conduct an assessment on the competency of MMDA’s instructors to improve their knowledge and skills in mentoring and coaching the participants for Motorcycle Riding Academy,” said Artes.
HPI president Sayaka Arai-Hattori decided to team up with the MMDA since it aligns with its commitment to promoting safer roads for all road users.

HPI, through the Honda Safety Driving Center (HSDC), will provide comprehensive training programs for the MMDA’s traffic enforcers and instructors on reinforcing safe and responsible road user behavior.
The HSDC will also enhance the skills of MMDA enforcers to become full-time instructors at the agency’s MRA. Moreover, HSDC will conduct periodic reviews of the MMDA’s motorcycle training modules.
Aside from providing technical assistance, HPI donated 21 motorcycle units to the MMDA. The motorcycle units will be used for the MRA’s practical training. HPI will donate an additional 29 motorcycle units to the MMDA.

The vacant property of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will be utilized for the MMDA’s MRA.
MMDA’s MRA is set to open within the third quarter of 2023. The agency said that the training will be free to all interested applicants and they will be given certificates upon completion of lectures, practical application, and basic emergency response course.
