Mitsubishi, World Vision Japan donates high school building in Samar

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has officially collaborated with non-government organization (NGO) World Vision Japan to establish a school building in Santa Rita, Samar.

The said project aims to provide a better learning environment for children, specifically junior high school students. This was made possible thanks to MMC’s Php 4.96 million yen donation (Php 1.839 million) along with voluntary donations from the company’s employees. Besides the building, the company likewise handed over school equipment like tablet armchairs, projectors, and fans. 

Of note, this is a part of MMC’s donation program which started back in April 2009. As mentioned above, it involves the company’s employees via voluntary donations that are collected each month. The fund aims to benefit society, according to MMC. 

This also falls in line with MMC’s push to contribute to local economies through business activities - an advocacy that the company started in 2018. This is performed by the Japanese entities in the ASEAN region through employment, human resource development, investments, technology transfer, as well as exports generated through business growth within the region. This is seen by MMC as a push to help alleviate the current environmental and social issues currently prevailing in ASEAN. 

Together with Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation executives and school officials also held an opening ceremony for the new facility. These include Principal Violeta Duran and MMPC Executive Vice President Takehisa Usami. 

“Mitsubishi Motors began its operations in the Philippines in 1963, and since then, for the past 61 years, we have been producing and selling automobiles with the support of the people of the Philippines,” said Usami at the high school building opening ceremony.

This is indeed our great pleasure and pride that our support has served to help build the new national high school building. I sincerely hope that the children will experience many things in this school building and will play a role of the development of the Philippines in the future,” added Usami. 

MMPC is quite active with its corporate social responsibility programs (CSR). Last year, it engaged in a forestation project in Quezon Province together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The company likewise collaborated with the Balik-Baterya Scholarship Program to help fund the education of 20 senior high schoolers studying at the Don Jose Integrated High School and Biñan City Senior High School.
