Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) announced that it appointed Noriaki Hirakata as its first-ever Chairman of the Board.

The strategic appointment is said to reflect "MMPC's stronger commitment to enhancing corporate governance and driving sustainable business growth." Hirakata is responsible for ensuring close coordination between MMPC and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) in executing business plans in the country.

Currently, Hirakata is holding the position of Assistant Executive Officer at MMC. He is responsible for Corporate Strategy management in Tokyo Head Office.

One of the talks behind closed doors could be the strategy for the all-new ASEAN-dedicated subcompact crossover. This upcoming crossover has been developed with the ASEAN road conditions in mind. Extensive road testing was conducted on ASEAN roads to ensure the model will cater to the specific demands in the region.

A new ASEAN crossover is just around the corner

Two of the new crossover's most highlighted features are the Dynamic Sound and Wet Mode. The Dynamic Sound is co-developed with Yamaha Corporation to allow the vehicle to deliver quality sounds even when driving on rough roads. Meanwhile, the brand's first-ever Wet Mode can be handy in countries with a rainy season like the Philippines.

The all-new subcompact crossover is scheduled to debut at the 30th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show happening on August 10.

Another upcoming model Hirakata could work on is the next-generation Strada. Coming with a new design concept called "Beast Mode", the next-gen iteration has been showcasing a more rugged and beefier stance behind camouflage. For the full reveal, the Japanese automaker is slated to uncover the pickup truck in Thailand later this month.

"As MMPC Chairman of the Board, Noriaki Hirakata's main responsibility is to oversee implementation of strategic business plans by the Executive Management Committee in order to further solidify the brand's position as market leader in the Philippines," said MMPC in a press release.

Meanwhile, the MMPC President and CEO, which is currently held by Takeshi Hara, will continue managing the company's day-to-day operations.
