This is the first electric vehicle-exclusive Mercedes dealership in the world.

Mercedes-Benz has opened its first-ever dealership that exclusively sells electric vehicles (EV) in Japan. Specifically, it’s a Mercedes EQ dealership in Yokohama, with “EQ” being Mercedes-Benz's lineup of fully electric cars.

The Mercedes EQ Yokohama dealership opened on December 6, 2022, followed by a five-day opening fair.

Being under the Mercedes EQ sub-brand, this new dealership is designed to cater to electric car owners, while providing an opportunity for potential buyers to experience the EV life.

At most, the showroom floor is capable of displaying up to seven different Mercedes EQ models. The dealership is also equipped with three EV charging units. Specifically, it comes with one quick charger, and 2 standard chargers.

As a side note, the EQ lineup mostly consists of fully electric-powered versions of existing Mercedes-Benz models. One example of this is the EQB seven-seater crossover EV, which is based on the GLB-class. There’s also the EQC, which is based on the GLC-class, the G-Wagon derived EQG, among others.

Staff members of this new Mercedes EQ dealership are also considered as “EQ Experts.” They are experts in all things EV and will be able to answer the questions of those who want to learn more about EVs. They can also facilitate test drives and arrange for maintenance services.

In the near future, Mercedes EQ Yokohama’s charging capabilities will also be equipped with solar panels. This will serve to make the establishment more sustainable and self-sufficient.

The new Mercedes EQ Yokohama dealership also lines up with Mercedes-Benz's Ambition 2039 initiative. Essentially, its goal is to make all Mercedes-Benz cars carbon-neutral by the year 2039.

But besides that lofty goal, do note also that according to the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA), Mercedes-Benz is one of the biggest foreign car brands in the Land of the Rising Sun.

That said, this new EV-only dealership might also help pave the way for the brand’s fully electric cars to gain a stronger foothold in the country since Mercedes-Benz is already a big name brand over there.
