The Maserati GranTurismo returns after bowing out in 2019

What adorns the newest roadgoing Maserati is a livery comprising the Maserati trident in the Italian colors of red, white, and green, all blending into a deep blue shade with the use of gradients. This denotes the electric version, which will be offered as the flagship of the range and the first Maserati in history to be so equipped.

These are showcased on an exterior that picks up bits from the MC20, including the vertically oriented LED headlamps hovering over the front corner vents and diffuser. Rounding out the fascia is the long hood terminating at a sharp front end, where the trademark Maserati grille with vertical slats.

Just behind the raised front fenders lie the iconic Maserati triple ports, with the familiar trident resting on the B-pillar on top of more pronounced rear haunches. Slimmed-down rear LED lamps exude a more athletic character, perfectly matched by the quad exhaust tips recessed within the new rear diffuser.

Aside from the battery-powered tri-motor version touted to produce over 1,000 horsepower, the 2023 GranTurismo will also reportedly be coming with a V6 Nettuno engine shared with the MC20. The power unit is likely to be slightly detuned from the GranTurismo’s sports car sibling, which currently makes 621 horsepower and 729 Nm of torque.

The upcoming version marks the nameplate’s comeback since bowing out in 2019, after a 12-year production run that has seen multiple variants such as the GranTurismo S, MC, Sport, GranCbrio, GranCabrio Sport, and GranCabrio MC. A select number of Maserati employees have already earned their time at the driver’s seat, as the new GranTurismo racks up the miles.

Maserati will be offering the upcoming GranTurismo in both Modena and Trofeo trim levels.

Maserati GranTurismo
The Maserati GranTurismo together with the GranCabrio is part of a series of grand tourers by the Italian Manufacturer, Maserati. The two versions came after the 2-door V8 grand tourers: the Maserati Coupe and Spyder. The model was at first equipped with a 4.2liter V8 engine which was developed together with the Ferrari. The Maserati M139 of the Quattroporte V is where the GraTturismo derived from. The front and back suspension is a double-wishbone. A typical grand tourer is known for its comfort with speed and driver benefits. The GranTurismo is a record-holder for a car that is developed in just a short span of time in the auto industry. The design and production only took nine months. Since Ferrari took the design of the replaced Maserati Coupe and after some changes, the Ferrari launched the Ferrari California. The GranTurismo produced 28,805 while the convertible had 11,715 units produced. The Zed was the last production of the GranTurismo. It came in shades of blue, black and white. The Guigario Maserati Coupe was replaced with Pininfarina with shorter wheelbase from the Quattroporte chassis and a 4.2Litre V8 engine from the Ferrari. One year after, the GranTurismo S came with a 4.7Litre engine. It captured attention because of its 0-6 mph time of 4.9 seconds with a speed of 183 mph, making it the fastest in the Maserati line. The GranTurismo came as a refreshed and restyled for the coming year of which the Goodwood Festival in 2017 took notice of.
