MPTC traffic patrol officers will be deputized by LTO.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) together with the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), have recently signed a memorandum of agreement. This solidifies the two entities’ partnership ensuring the convenience and safety of all motorists plying expressways.

In other words, these two have joined forces to implement traffic rules on toll roads. And via this collaboration, the LTO is set on deputizing MPTC’s traffic patrol officers so that they can effectively implement land transportation laws, rules, and regulations within their assigned expressways.

In turn, apprehensions made on the said expressways will be reported to the LTO by the MPTC through digital means. This will be done via the integration of the MPTC system with LTO’s own database.

According to the LTO-NCR West Regional Director Atty. Clarence Guinto, the MOA signing will result in a smoother and more efficient way of submitting traffic violation tickets.

MPTC President and CEO Rodrigo Franco also added that the “LTO and MPTC have a common mission, and that is to promote safety and comfort of our motorists, their passengers, and the public in general.” This new MOA, according to him, perfectly encapsulates the LTO’s and MPTC’s goals in ensuring the “welfare of the motoring public.”

For those unaware, the MPTC handles a couple of major tollways in the country. It manages the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CAVITEX), as well as the newly opened Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

Many of these expressways serve as the main pathways for hundreds and thousands of motorists in their respective regions. And yes, by their very nature as “fast roads” with plenty of users, it can be said that these are places where the long arm of the law is needed.
