It includes medical certificates as well.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has been giving considerations since the COVID-19 first broke out in the country last March 2020 by extending the validity of driver’s licenses. This way, Filipino motorists can safely renew their driver’s licenses while observing minimum safety protocols such as social distancing.

LTO considers the health and safety of the motoring public

After almost two years into the global health crisis, LTO announced that it is still extending driver’s license validity. For driver’s licenses expiring in December, the government agency extended their validity until February 28 next year. The extension is enacted despite the implementation of the downgraded Alert Level 2 in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to LTO, the licenses that are extended consist of Student Permit (SP), Driver’s License (DL), and Conductor’s License (LC). Also, medical certificates are included in the lengthened validity which can be handy so motorists won’t have to revisit and repay for this requirement when renewing licenses.

As of this writing, the government agency hasn’t disclosed whether it will extend the validity of expiring driver’s licenses next year. Regardless, the extensions issued for both driver’s licenses and motor vehicle registrations have aided motorists in their car ownership experience since last year.

Be sure to renew on time to avoid inconvenience on the road

The LTO, on the other hand, is now issuing the 10-year driver’s license validity in more areas in the Philippines including Region I, Region II, Region III, Region IV-A, and Region V. Interested motorists must take and pass the Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE) to apply. To note, only those without a road violation can be eligible for the 10-year validity.

The target date for the nationwide implementation of the 10-year driver’s license validity is by the end of the year. Metro Manila offices have started issuing it as early as November. Once that comes to pass, motorists would limit their visits to LTO offices, alleviating the government agency’s daily operations.
