LTO branches in Quezon City have started issuing the extended validity.

The issuance of a 10-year driver’s license is now being broadened in the country. As of this writing, not all offices of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) are issuing 10-year driver’s license validity just yet. There are only a few branches that offer longer validity including licensing offices in Quezon City.

But the issuance of driver’s licenses with 10-year validity will be available nationwide by December 2021 as promised by President Rodrigo Duterte. LTO branches in Metro Manila will start adopting the extended validity this November. This will provide a hassle-free driving experience for Filipino motorists as license holders won’t have to visit LTO offices from time to time.

“By December 2021, the LTO commits that all its offices nationwide will be issuing licenses with a 10-year validity,” said President Rodrigo Duterte.

LTO said that only those motorists without violations are allowed to avail of the 10-year driver’s license validity.

As a review, drivers renewing their licenses must take a mandatory comprehensive driver’s education program (CDEP) exam. The exam has a total of 25 questions and requires a passing rate of 50 percent. To note, the CDEP is available for free on the government agency’s website.

Of note, drivers have a choice whether to attend a seminar that’s conducted physically at the LTO’s Driver Education Centers for free. Drivers can also opt to take the seminar through accredited driving schools for a certain fee. On the other hand, drivers can choose to have it online through the LTO’s online portal for free.

“Ang lisensya ng ating mga [motorists] sa driving sa lahat is good for ten years. Wala nang renewal-renewal na madalian. You have ten years to drive. Baka hindi mo maubos ‘yang period na ‘yan,” added Duterte.
