Hyundai Tucson, Toyota RAV4 among 10 reliable cars in UK survey 

Car owners are usually thinking about the reliability of what they are driving. The problem is, getting to the big picture of whether a particular car is really reliable or not might take a while. Then again, surveys like the one What Car?, a UK-based publication recently completed might provide some insights. 

The What Car? 2022 Reliability study has a sample size of 24,927 car owners from the UK

Conducted in association with car repair, maintenance, and insurance specialist MotorEasy, this survey in question took feedback from a sizable sample size of 24,927 car owners. A total of 32 brands and 248 models were then taken into consideration in this study.  

Out of the relatively massive list of brands of models, only four managed to achieve a perfect 100 percent score. These are the 2021-Present Hyundai Tucson, 2014-2019 model of the Kia Soul, the 2017-2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, and the 2016-Present Mini Convertible.

As one can see from the table, the all-new Hyundai Tucson counts as one of the most reliable models as per the study, achieving a 100 percent reliability rating. The said model year of the Tuscon was recently launched in the Philippines back in August 2022 alongside three other Hyundai vehicles.    

In the Philippine market, the new Tucson has two variants. There’s the top-spec Tucson GLS+ CRDi 2.0 AT priced at Php 1,840,000, and the entry-level Tucson GLS 2.0 AT which can be had for Php 1,570,000.

Meanwhile, the survey also looked into what its respondents consider as reliable car brands. One that came out of the said study with high points was Lexus, with an overall score of 98.4 percent. This was then followed by Toyota at 97.2 percent. Of note, five out of the ten highest scoring models belong to either of the two sister car brands.

For this category of this study, What Car? used the data gathered from cars up to five years old from each brand. 

The study also considered vehicle propulsion type. For hybrids in general, they were found to be quite reliable with a score of 95.4 percent. The least dependable type of car, surprisingly enough, were electric cars which averaged a score of 90.9 percent.
