Porsche has been creating a reputable name for itself in the high-performance car scene with its superb engineering marvels. But what if every active model of the German automaker goes against each other instead to see who will come out at the front?
Porsche cars take on a drag race [Video: carwow]
To find out, automotive website Carwow set up a 1/4-mile drag race (0.40 kilometers) among the 911, Taycan, Panamera, Cayenne, 718, and Macan. The specs of the models are in their fastest versions, making the race even more interesting. From coupes to crossovers, every driver looks to reach the end line first.
Despite the threat of the all-electric Taycan Turbo S with its instant torque power delivery, the combustion-powered 911 Turbo S won all races, proving its seat in the lineup as the brand’s worthy flagship model. Here is the list of 0.40-km times of the Porsche models as per carwow’s test run:
- 911 Turbo S – 10.3 seconds
- Taycan Turbo S – 10.6 seconds
- Panamera Turbo S – 11.0 seconds
- Cayenne Turbo GT – 11.7 seconds
- 718 Cayman GTS – 12.3 seconds
- Macan GTS – 12.7 seconds
The Porsche 911 Turbo S is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6 engine that generates 650 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. It drives all four wheels, providing much-needed traction at a standing quarter-mile race. The vehicle uses an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

In a rolling race where cars start at a certain speed, the Taycan managed to get ahead of the 911 for a few seconds. One explanation we see is that the weight of the heavier Taycan is less relevant in a rolling start as compared to a standstill. But thanks to the turbo boosts and top speed advantages of the shifting DCT, the 911 zoomed past its Porsche siblings.
One recent achievement of the Porsche 911 nameplate was clocking 6:49.328 minutes at the Nürburgring circuit with its latest GT3 RS spec version. With it, the German sports car is officially the fastest naturally-aspirated vehicle at the ring, besting even the Lamborghini Aventador, which is up by more than 200 horsepower.
