Chery Auto Philippines will be joining the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) that will kick off on April 7. At the said event, Chery PH will be launching something that it claims will excite our senses. If we went by the teasers the car brand recently released, it could most likely be the Tiggo 8 Pro midsize crossover SUV.
One of the teaser photos showing a leather-clad seat
Like the Tiggo 2 Pro and Tiggo 7 Pro that were both launched last year, the Tiggo 8 Pro is the spicier, edgier-looking Chery crossover vehicle. In this case, it is based on the Tiggo 8, the brand’s flagship model.
Based on what we know from other markets, the model will follow the design conventions followed by other Pro versions. This means the upcoming Tiggo 8 Pro will get the same Dot-Matrix Galaxy design. It will also come with a pair of sharper-looking LED headlamps, a redesigned front bumper, as well as a pair of different-looking fog lamp clusters.
As for mechanicals, it might not deviate that much from the original Tiggo 8. That said, it is possible that it will be using the same 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine capable of making up to 145 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque. On the Tiggo 8, this engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox sending power to the front.

It's either that or if we also went by the copy on the teaser images that read “electrify your spirit,” Chery PH might bring in the Tiggo 8 Pro Hybrid. Of note, this version is already sold in China, and it uses a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline, 48V mild hybrid.
At maximum, this electrified powertrain can produce up to 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. As such, it is a fair bit more powerful than the non-hybrid Tiggo 8 Pro. Instead of actual gears though, it uses a continuously variable transmission.
Moving on to interiors, it is expected that it will be sporting a more premium cabin. This means more niceties like an abundance of soft-touch surfaces, high-quality leather, among others. Like the Tiggo 8, the Tiggo 8 Pro will of course have three rows of seats.
Tech-wise, it will also come standard with a digital gauge cluster. It also gets a more compact gear shifter that appears to be electro-mechanical. The center stack itself also appears to have been rearranged since the gear shifter is smaller.
The China-spec Chery Tiggo 8 Pro
For now though, nothing specific has been given out regarding the upcoming model. Chery is also yet to release anything about pricing. If you want to be the first to catch a glimpse of this new Chery model you might want to attend the upcoming 2022 MIAS which will start on April 7 and will run until April 10.
