The upgraded engine brings improved efficiency in city driving.

Changan Motor Philippines, Inc. (CMPI) launched the facelifted version of the CS35 Plus last March, showing a more assertive design inside and out. Now, it looks like the subcompact crossover isn’t all for show as it can deliver big time in terms of fuel efficiency as well.

In the fuel economy run conducted by the Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP), the Changan CS35 Plus managed to yield a fuel consumption of 15.254 km/l in the city. The vehicle registered 86.8 km on the odometer during the drive, traversing the cities of Makati, Manila, and Quezon. CMPI said that the CS35 Plus was refueled with 5.69-liters of gasoline during this run.

Meanwhile, the subcompact crossover returned 21.495 km/l on the highway while driving between 60 to 80 km/h. It covered a distance of 180.652 km along NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) from Balagtas in Bulacan to Tarlac City and back. The vehicle needed only 8.408 liters of fuel to top up after the long fuel economy test drive.

The AAP set realistic driving conditions to ensure that the fuel economy ratings can be achieved by CS35 Plus owners in typical scenarios. See the list of driving conditions below:

  • For each run, the fuel tank was filled to the brim with Unleaded 95RON.
  • All standard OEM equipment was present in the vehicle.
  • Tire pressure was set at 32 psi.
  • The air conditioning system was at a full thermostat with the lowest blower setting.
  • The radio was not used.

Looking at the AAP’s fuel economy ratings of the pre-facelifted Changan CS35 Plus, the city driving consumption improved by 11.18-percent, while the highway drive remains around the same range.

The slight improvement was delivered by the carried-over 1.4-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that boasts Blue Core technology, now tweaked to produce more power at 160 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. As standard, the engine is paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
