The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) has been bettering the traffic and tourism of its surrounding areas since its opening last April 2022. Now that it is gaining traction, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) looks to further improve the inter-island bridge’s services by going cashless in the next two months.
The CCLEX is going cashless
In a report by Inquirer.net, the CCLEX will adopt cashless transactions. This system can reduce travel time for traversing motorists by eliminating the person-to-person payment method. By doing so, the company can practice social distancing, helping curb the COVID-19 cases.
“At this time, we still continue to convince and encourage our motorists that we should already maximize the registration of our RFID,” said CCLEC President and General Manager Allan Alfon in a media briefing.
The new payment method also affects motorcycle users as they are allowed to traverse the expressway as Class 1 vehicles, including those with an engine displacement below 400cc. According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the green light on motorcycles is only right as these have become the preferred mode of transportation of Cebuanos.
The cashless toll payment will provide a more efficient travel
For the convenience of motorists, the CCLEC launched the MPT DriveHub app. It allows users to manage their CCLEX RFID accounts conveniently on their smartphones. Within the app, users can check their RFID balance, as well as reload using a credit card, debit card, and Maya.
Furthermore, the CCLEC noted that pedestrian and bicycle users will be given access to the iconic expressway starting next month. However, they must plan their trip ahead of time as the toll road company is looking to implement one-way access only.
This means that pedestrians and cyclists must run across the entire length of the expressway if they wish to enter. Another point Alfon said is that stopping at the CCLEX to take photos is prohibited for safety reasons. But they are now ‘on the drawing table’ to provide a dedicated area for those who wish to take a photo with the bridge.
