It gives better access to Tagaytay’s picturesque destinations

The Metro Pacific Tollway Corporation (MPTC), the company managing the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), announced that it will be opening a new exit on the said road on September 2023.

It is now 91 percent done

Dubbed the CALAX Silang Aguinaldo Interchange, its construction is handled by MPCALA Holdings Inc. (MPCALA) in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Once the project is finished, it is expected to cater to an additional 5,000 motorists daily. It will also provide a more convenient route for motorists heading to and from Silang Town and Tagaytay. As per CALAX management, the Silang Aguinaldo Interchange is now 91 percent complete.

Currently, travel to Tagaytay from Metro Manila is done via CALAX’s Mamplasan Toll Booth, Silang East Toll, then the Santa Rosa to Tagaytay Road. Another alternate is the non-tollway route via Silang Cavite. But if you’ve been to Tagaytay in the past few years, you’ll know that these have become busy and congested with traffic.

The addition of the new exit, in turn, presents an alternate faster route for Tagaytay-bound motorists. To be exact, using the upcoming Silang Aguinaldo Interchange may cut down travel time to Tagaytay to just 20 minutes.

According to the tollway company, this new interchange also provides better access to the growing array of coffee shops, and the many farm-to-table restaurants in Silang.

As mentioned above, it is scheduled to open in September 2023, and currently, construction efforts on this project are focused on its finishing touches. This includes putting up the toll facilities, road lights, signages, and sound barriers necessary for the smooth operation of this new Interchange.

But beyond the upcoming exit, the company says that it will be expanding CALAX by a total of 45 kilometers come 2024. It will then feature a total of eight interchanges including the upcoming Open Canal, Governor’s Drive, and Kawit Interchange. The Kawit Interchange is particularly important as it will form a connection to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX).

The entirety of CALAX is expected to be completed by 2024

Current operational interchanges include one in Mamplasan, at the Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Sta. Rosa Tagaytay, and Silang East. Once all its interchanges are built, CALAX will cut down travel times between the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the CAVITEX by 45 minutes from the current 2.5-hour travel time.

Of note, MPTC is the tollways infrastructure unit of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation. Besides CALAX and CAVITEX, it is also the concession rights holder for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector, the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX). MPCALA meanwhile is a subsidiary of the MPTC.
