Bugatti revealed that it plans to take the covers off its new hypercar in 2024.
A Chiron successor is around the corner
Not a lot of details have been disclosed. Although, Bugatti said the outgoing Director of Design Achim Anscheidt worked on designing the hypercar. Anscheidt was supposed to retire in 2021 but Bugatti Rimac CEO Mate Rimac encouraged him to stay for three more years to design the Chiron successor. Frank Heyl, who has been with the company since 2008, will replace him.
We can expect to see familiar signature design cues on the upcoming hypercar. Some of these include the horseshoe grille, the so-called ‘Bugatti Line’, and the centerline that flows from the front to the rear. The French brand also said it is looking at the past to design future models, particularly models like the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic.
The successor should retain Bugatti's signature design cues
The upcoming Bugatti will reportedly come with some form of electrification, which should not be a surprise with the brand’s partnership with Rimac in place. The latter boasts the Nevera, an all-electric hypercar capable of generating a total output of 1,914 horsepower via its four-motor setup.
It would be interesting to see what engine will be used considering the 8.0-liter W16 engine, the same power unit that the Chiron and Veyron have, will be discontinued due to emission concerns. This engine helped the brand make a name for itself on the global stage, especially in the brand’s attempt to snatch the world record for reaching the highest top speed.
The next Bugatti hypercar might be getting an electrified powertrain
The upcoming Bugatti model will be succeeding the Chiron, a mid-engine hypercar that ran in the lineup from 2016 to 2022. Like the Veyron, the Chiron comes with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, suggesting that the car next in line could follow suit. Only 500 Chiron examples were scheduled to be produced.
Upon the reveal next year, Bugatti is looking to launch the upcoming hypercar sometime in 2026.
