A night inspection was conducted by the government agency last April 3 to examine whether the bridge is all set for its slated inauguration ceremony. The Binondo-Intramuros bridge will not only provide motorists traversing Manila a faster route but it is also positioned to become an iconic landscape in the city.

With a total length of 680-lineal meters, the upcoming bridge involves the construction of a 70-meter four-lane road and 21.65 meters wide basket-handle tied steel arch bridge. It connects Intramuros at Solana Street and Riverside Drive to Binondo at Rentas Street and Muelle dela Industria. In addition, an exit ramp in Binondo at Plaza del Conde street will be opened later this month.

The Binondo-Intramuros bridge is one of the two China-grant bridges under the current administration. Its first bridge is the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge which was opened last July 2021, cutting the travel time between Makati and Mandaluyong to just 12 minutes.

As for the Binondo-Intramuros bridge, the DPWH expects the bridge to accommodate over 30,000 motorists, improving traffic conditions in Metro Manila. It is also built with a bicycle lane and built-in protected pedestrian walkways to provide an alternative and greener mode of transportation.

“With the bridge’s opening, there will be a new and faster connectivity between Binondo and Intramuros which are two of the most busy districts in the City of Manila,” said DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain.

Now that the Binondo-Intramuros nears its opening, the DPWH is eyeing the construction of the Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) in partnership with the San Miguel Corporation (SMC). Both the Binondo-Intramuros bridge and PAREX have been set over the Pasig River.
