Get to and from BGC to Ortigas in 12 minutes.

Going to and from Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and Ortigas will soon be more convenient, easier, and faster for the motoring public. This is due to the completion of the Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge, which is a major component of the Php 1.79 billion BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road project.

BGC-Ortigas bridge opening

The Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge will open on June 12

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar announced that the Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge will be opened on June 12, 2021, which happens to coincide with the country’s Independence Day.

“As promised, Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City leading to Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City will be connected to Pasig City/Mandaluyong City by the Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge on the historic day our nation commemorates the 123rd Independence Day”, said Villar.

The said bridge connects Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig. It is expected to reduce travel time from BGC to Ortigas from one hour to 12 minutes. The Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge offers better accessibility between the cities of Mandaluyong, Pasig, Taguig, and Makati. It will also help decongest traffic along EDSA and C-5.

Of note, the opening of the Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge has been delayed. Previously, the DPWH said that it will be operational by May 2021 but the construction has been stopped for two months in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aside from the construction of the bridge, the DPWH is also working on other infrastructure projects that are included in the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road. One of which is the road repair and widening of Brixton Street to Fairlane Street in Pasig. The agency is also conducting road widening on 8th Avenue in BGC. There’s also the construction of the upward and downward ramps at Kalayaan Avenue Intersection, and the construction of Lawton Avenue – Global City Viaduct, which is said to be completed in the last quarter of 2021.
