Mazda’s all-new pickup truck is set to debut on November 17, according to a report published by Carguide.ph. The technical details such as specs, pricing, and variants of the 2022 BT-50 have yet to be shared by Mazda Philippines. But, we do know that it is based on the third-generation Isuzu D-Max.

Mazda and Isuzu decided to team up to develop a new pickup truck last 2016, which means that the all-new BT-50, and the third-gen D-Max share the same platform. The teaming up of the two Japanese automakers also put an end to the long-term partnership of Mazda and Ford. In case you forgot, the outgoing BT-50 is based on the Ford Ranger.

With that in mind, the global spec 2022 Mazda BT-50 is powered by the same diesel engines that are equipped on the all-new Isuzu D-Max. This could give us an idea that Mazda Philippines could most likely offer the 2022 BT-50 with two engine options: a 3.0-liter or a 1.9-liter turbodiesel engine.

The 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine delivers 190 hp and 450 Nm of torque, while the 1.9-liter power unit generates 150 hp and 350 Nm. The engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The exterior styling of the all-new Mazda BT-50 is different from the one you see on the D-Max, for obvious reasons. The BT-50 is integrated with Mazda’s Kodo design language, which explains why its front end resembles the car brand’s CX series vehicle lineup.

The interior layout is also not the same, with the Mazda BT-50 leaning towards having a slightly more refined cabin. The Japanese automaker shared that the BT-50 is developed with the intention of making travel and the time spent inside the vehicle “exceptionally pleasant.”

The global spec all-new Mazda BT-50 features a 9.0-inch infotainment system is integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also comes with a digital instrument cluster, an eight-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry/start, and front and rear parking sensors.
