The clock ticks closer to the model’s imminent world premiere.

Fans of the Honda Civic Type R won’t have long to wait, as the automaker released the latest teaser video that gives a glimpse of what the compact sedan’s performance variant is capable of, at no less than the Nürburgring in Germany.

Lasting just under 40 seconds, the clip shows the upcoming Civic Type R undergoing test runs at the famed circuit back in May, draped in its red and black camouflage that valiantly tries to hide the car’s exterior details.

Scenes of the car roaring through the tarmac alternate with those of the test mule being attended to by a team of mechanics at the garage, interspersed with close-ups of design elements such as the LED headlamps, black multi-spoke alloy wheels, triple exhaust tips, and wing spoiler.

Interior shots show the Civic Type R as having the same cockpit as the standard Civic, right down to the honeycomb dashboard trim and floating-type touchscreen display at the center of the dashboard. Of course, a left-hand drive configuration is showed, as Honda does not sell the eleventh-generation Civic in its home market of Japan.

The latest iteration has already bested its predecessor's lap time at Suzuka

The video bills the upcoming model as “the ultimate joy of driving” and promises its world premiere within the month. Honda trumpeting the fact the new Civic Type R has already set a new lap record at Japan’s Suzuka Circuit, completing the 5.8-kilometer track in two minutes and 23.1 seconds, beating its previous iteration to become the fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle at the site.

Widely believed to wield a 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine under the hood, the Civic Type R is touted to produce 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. A first for the model will be the introduction of a 6-speed automatic transmission, which Honda says was meant to make the new Civic Type R appeal to a wider range of buyers.
