The Japanese Kei car looks more stylish than ever before.

Japanese automaker Suzuki unveiled the all-new 9th-generation Alto for the 2022 model in Japan. Considering that the 8th-generation Suzuki Alto has been around for around seven years now, one can say that the new next-gen model is a rightful replacement. The new version comes with a new styling and a mild-hybrid system.

The boxy exterior shape is an undeniable design theme. It is complemented by the boxy windows, rectangular windshield, humps on the lower door portion, recessed front and rear bumpers, and trapezoidal-shaped headlamps. Moreover, the Japanese Kei car features a two-tone exterior paint for a more vibrant appearance.

Just like the outgoing model, the new Alto still sports an off-center plate number which is a quirky-looking touch. No official specs have been disclosed just yet so we can’t be sure of the exact exterior features including the color options. But based on the initial photos, the new model is offered in Light Blue, Red, and White.

Moving to the interior, the same design theme applies. The center stack is outlined by a rectangle chrome trim that encloses the infotainment screen and rectangle A/C vents. Suzuki also added blue-colored trims on the dashboard and side door panels to create a brighter appeal. However, it is still unclear whether this feature is standard across the range.

The 9th-generation Suzuki Alto is expected to be powered by a 660 cc 3-cylinder gasoline engine with no confirmed performance numbers. Since the powertrain now consists of a mild-hybrid system thanks to an integrated starter generation (ISG) and small lithium-ion battery, both power, and fuel efficiency are expected to improve.

According to reports, the all-new Suzuki Alto will be out in Japan by January 2021. Suzuki Philippines, on the other hand, has no word regarding the new Alto. Considering that there are three Suzuki hatchbacks in the local lineup already, the company might have a difficult time finding a place for the Kei car if it decides to bring it in.
