The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) announced that the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) will be returning for its eighth edition this September.
Toyota could showcase its hybrid models
With the theme “Mobility + Humanity: Innovating for the Common Good,” the biennial event is an indication that automakers are starting to bounce back after the pandemic hit in 2020. It follows the success of the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) which also returned with a live audience last April. Now, CAMPI introduced the 13 car brands that will be filling the stages at the upcoming PIMS.
Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki, Isuzu, Mazda, and Honda will be raising the flag of the Land of the Rising Sun. It would be a good platform for the country’s leading carmaker, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), to showcase the next-gen GR 86, coming with a more powerful engine that now makes 233 horsepower.
Meanwhile, Korean automakers including Hyundai and Kia will be joining the fray. Visitors can expect to see the initial four-car lineup of Hyundai under the new distributorship of Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc. (HMPH). The lineup consists of the next-gen Staria and three crossovers, namely Creta, Tucson, and Santa Fe.
Hyundai is coming in strong
Chinese automakers will not be left out as Chery, Foton, and Geely will present their products at the 2022 PIMS. CAMPI confirmed that Foton Motor Philippines, Inc. (FMPI) will be providing three modernized jeepneys as shuttle service during the 4-day event. It will be free of charge, running between World Trade Center and SMX Convention Center.
Last but certainly not least, BMW Philippines is looking to wow visitors at the auto show. Since the theme of the event is about sustainability within the local car market, the German marque will likely front the all-electric iX midsize luxury crossover. The BMW iX runs on the brand’s eDrive tech which has two electric motors, making a combined 326 horsepower.
“We aim to unite and drive our collective towards a united mission of building a better and more sustainable future for Filipinos through mobility. We will accomplish this by coming together to showcase the positive impact of sustainable and future-ready innovations on our day-to-day lives,” said CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez.
Geely remains mum regarding its entry at the 2022 PIMS
The 2022 PIMS will be held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City from September 15 to 18, 2022. Tickets can be purchased at the venue for Php 200 each. Visitors can check out what the 13 car brands have in store for them from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
