Hyundai Motor Company wowed the world when it unveiled the next-generation model of the Starex called Staria last year. It comes with a futuristic-looking design, as well as versatile seating configurations. Now, the Hyundai Staria has officially made its debut in the Philippines.
2023 Hyundai Staria
The 2023 Hyundai Staria is part of Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc.’s (HMPH) revamped model lineup which is also joined by the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe, Tucson, Creta, and Santa Fe. It is made available in four variants, namely the base 2.2 CRDi Cargo 6MT, 2.2 CRDi Commuter 6MT, 2.2 CRDi GLS+ 8AT, and top-spec 2.2 CRDi Premium+ 8AT AWD.
Exterior
We’ll start with the dimensions of the Hyundai Staria. It is 5,253mm in length, 1,970mm in width, and 1,990mm in height (2,000mm height in the base Cargo variant). Additionally, the wheelbase and ground clearance are rated at 3,273mm and 186mm, respectively.
It has a neat and smooth body
The flagship Premium+ variant is equipped with exclusive features such as dual LED headlamps (low and high projection), LED rear foglamps, an LED rear combination lamp, a sunroof, and a power and smart tailgate. It also boasts brass chrome accents on the front fascia and wheels for a more premium-looking finish. The Staria also debuted with other Hyundai vehicles.
Interior
Inside is where you’ll find the model’s versatile seating configuration. The base Staria Cargo has a seating capacity of three persons, making it an ideal choice for those who are looking for a cargo hauler for businesses. In case you’re wondering, the Hyundai Staria Cargo comes with a max cargo capacity of 4,935 liters. Meanwhile, the mid Commuter and GLS+ variants are available with an 11-seating setup.
Interior of the Hyundai Staria
As for the top-spec Premium+ variant, it offers a seating configuration of up to seven. With lesser seats as compared to the mid variants, passengers can maximize the interior space along with two captain chairs on the second row. These seats can slide and recline, as well as offer a ventilating function.
Tech & Safety
Both the GLS+ and Premium+ variants are equipped with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But only the top-spec Staria has Bose speakers with surround sound. Meanwhile, the Cargo and Commuter use a mono LCD with AM/FM, radio, USB, and Bluetooth.
It comes with a spacious interior
In the safety department, the Staria Premium+ delivers the most number of functions including Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), and Forward Collision Avoidance Assist-Junction (FCA-JX), among others. As for the standard safety bits, the van gets dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with multi-collision brake, hill start assist control, and electronic stability control (ESC) with auto hold.
Engine & Powertrain
Powering the Hyundai Staria as standard is a 2.2-liter CRDi diesel engine with 175 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. The Cargo and Commuter variants get a 6-speed manual transmission, while the GLS+ and Premium+ benefit from an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Staria enters the local market together with all-new Hyundai models
The advantage of opting for the flagship model is its use of an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. With it, drivers can feel more confident on the road as AWD generally provides more traction than 2WD systems. Moreover, the drivetrain is paired with Premium+-exclusive paddle shifters.
