According to a report from Carguide.ph, Honda Cars Philippines will be bringing in the aforementioned 2021 Civic Type R. There is however, a caveat: only 15 units will be released locally.

To be specific, the report states that the Philippine market will only receive seven Civic Type R units in Racing Blue Pearl, five in Sonic Gray Pearl, and three in the brand’s signature Championship White. Prices will reportedly start at Php 3,210,000, which is Php 30,000 more than the current model’s price.

So, what’s new with the 2021 Honda Civic Type R? For starters, it gets minor updates to its exterior and interior design. It gets a different looking shifter, and the fog lamp housings on the front fascia come with a restyled look as well.

The biggest change to the 2021 Civic Type R is its safety systems. For the first time, this model gets the Honda Sensing Safety Suite. This includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, collision mitigation, and collision warning among others.

On the performance side, there are some improvements as well. Chief among these is a retuned suspension that’s designed for better control and sharper steering. Combined with the stiffer frame, upgraded adaptive dampers, and larger brakes, Honda says that it has better overall handling than the previous versions.

As for power, the 2021 Honda Civic Type R will still be using the same 2.0-liter turbocharged K20C1 engine. It will still make 320 horsepower, and 400 Nm of torque, and it will still be paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Of note, the aforementioned gearbox has an upgraded gear ratio as well as a new clutch.

With regards to the 2021 Honda Civic Type R’s entry to the Philippine market, we tried to reach out to Honda Cars Philippines for more details. The company’s response is to “watch out for the latest news and announcements in the coming months regarding the launch of our new models.”

Obviously, that didn’t say anything about the Civic Type R at all, but the keywords there are “coming months” and “new models.” So yeah, let’s just wait for more updates from Honda Philippines to see what they’re cooking up.

On the other hand, we also reported that the 11th-gen 2022 Honda Civic might be reaching ASEAN markets sometime in 2022. But recent reports state that the all-new Civic will be making its debut in Thailand this July. Honda Cars PH did previously confirm that the 11th-gen Civic will be coming to the market but has yet to release the final launch date.
