1. Sib Duel: Hyundai Reina vs Accent: Spec sheet comparison

In the Philippine market, Hyundai currently has two subcompact car models. That’s the Reina and the Accent. In general, these two are targeting different price points. The Accent’s entry-level GL 1.4 MT (w/o Airbags) variant however is just Php 27,000 more expensive than the Reina GL 1.4 AT (w/ Apple CarPlay/Android Auto). So, which sedan has the better specs?

2. 2020 Hyundai Reina vs Accent: Exterior Review

When it comes to size, the Accent GL 1.4 MT measures 4,440 mm long, 1,729 mm wide, and 1,475 high. Its wheelbase is 2,600 mm, and it has a ground clearance of 140 mm.

In comparison, the Hyundai Reina GL 1.4 AT is 4,300 mm long, 1705 mm wide, and 1,460 mm in height. Its wheelbase measures at 2,570 mm in length, and its ground clearance is 150 mm.

The Accent GL is overall the larger vehicle. It is wider, taller, and longer than the Reina. So that means it might have more interior space than the latter.

Note however that the Reina might be better at handling rough roads as it has 10 mm more ground clearance than the Accent.

The Reina looks simple, yet elegant

For exterior features, both of these cars are on par with each other. Both have halogen headlights and LED taillights. Both don’t come with fog lights, and both come with steel wheels.

The one on the Hyundai Accent however is a larger 15-inch set, while the Reina uses a smaller 14-inch set.

Step inside these two and you’ll find a simple but comfortable interior. Both the Reina and the Accent can comfortably fit five people, and both have fabric-covered seats, tilt-only steering wheels, and manual air-conditioning.

The AC aboard the Accent GL however does have rear vents, whereas the Reina does not. Note though that the smaller Hyundai sedan has 12-volt accessory outlets that are absent on the Accent.

When it comes to on-board tech, the Hyundai Reina simply beats the Accent GL with its AVN touchscreen head unit. The said touchscreen is capable of connecting via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it can also provide offline navigation.

In comparison, the larger Accent GL has a simpler but still capable 3.8-inch LCD display with radio. Both cars are equipped with a four-piece speaker set.

In terms of cargo, the Accent has a default trunk capacity of 388-liters. Surprisingly enough, the smaller Reina has more at 475-liters.

4. 2020 Hyundai Reina vs Accent: Engine and Performance

Powering the Hyundai Accent GL is a 1.4-liter inline-4 gasoline mill, which can make up to 100 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Meanwhile, the Reina GL’s 1.4-liter makes a maximum of 94 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque. It’s also a front-wheel-drive vehicle, but it uses a four-speed automatic transmission instead.

To sum it up, the larger Accent makes a bit more horsepower, but both cars produce the same amount of torque. Note though that the Accent GL has a slightly heavier curb weight of 1,050 kg. The Reina GL, on the other hand, weighs 50 kg less at 1,000 kg.

For their suspensions, both cars use a MacPherson strut for the front and a torsion beam axle for the rear. Both also have the same solid disc front brakes and rear drum brake setup.

5. 2020 Hyundai Reina vs Accent: Safety Features

As for safety, this variant of the Accent we’re comparing with the Reina GL doesn’t have airbags. The only on-board safety features it comes with are seat belts and its high-tensile strength frame. It doesn’t have any sort of active safety features, and it doesn’t even have anti-lock braking.

In comparison, the Reina GL is better equipped safety-wise. It has two front airbags, anti-lock braking, and ISOFIX.

7. 2020 Hyundai Reina vs Accent: Conclusion

If you’re the type who likes getting the most car for your money’s worth, then it appears that the Hyundai Reina is the superior vehicle. It might be smaller in size as compared to the Accent but it comes with dual airbags and a better infotainment unit.

Moreover, the entry-level Accent’s lack of safety features could be crucial in the long run. However, the Accent GL (w/o Airbags) is available for a reason. It might be that some people are using it as a Taxi unit.
