The new CS35 Plus has three different variants for the local market. So, which one’s the right one for you?

Changan CS35 Plus Variants: Exterior

For exterior equipment, all trims of the CS35 Plus come standard with LED headlamps, LED taillights, roof rails, and roof-mounted spoilers. All three also come standard with power-folding side mirrors. The only difference is that the entry-level Lite rides on a set of 17-inch wheels, while the Hype and Luxe get a set of 18-inch wheels.

Size-wise, they’re also identical. They all have a length of 4,330mm, a width of 1,825mm, and a height of 1,660mm. They also have a wheelbase length of 2,600. The Lite however, has the least curb weight at 1,380 kg. Both the Hype and the Luxe clock in at 1,431kg.

Only the Luxe comes standard with a power liftgate, and a black-colored roof.

Changan CS35 Plus Variants: Interior

Inside, all three CS35 Plus variants can comfortably seat up to five. Both also provide their drivers with a push-to-start button, tilt and telescopic steering column, and a leather steering wheel. The Hype and Luxe also get a seven-inch LCD gauge cluster, while the Lite has a 10-inch “Break Code Screen”.

The driver’s seat on the Lite is manually adjustable, whereas the ones on the Hype and Luxe come with 2-way electronic and 4-way manual adjustability.

For comfort, all trims of this Changan-branded crossover come standard with automatic climate control. The Hype and the Luxe also get a panoramic sunroof, while the Luxe gets a smaller and simpler sunroof.

On board entertainment for all three trims is then handled by a 10-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, USB, and Smartphone mirroring. The Lite gets a total of four speakers, while the Hype and the Luxe have six. All three also come standard with wireless smartphone charging.

Changan CS35 Plus Variants: Engine & Performance

For engines, all three CS35 Plus variants use a 1.4-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine. On all three, this engine is paired with a seven-speed wet-type dual-clutch gearbox.

At maximum, this powertrain can make 160 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the vehicle’s rear wheels.

All trims also come with disc brakes for all four wheels, as well as an electronic parking brake.

Changan CS35 Plus Variants: Safety

Handling safety for all three CS35 Plus variants is anti-lock braking, stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, speed-sensing door locks, hill hold and descent control, brake assist, a reverse camera, as well as reverse parking sensors. All three also get an engine immobilizer, a car alarm, blind-spot monitoring, and a tire pressure monitor.

Exclusive to the Hype and Luxe however is a 360-degree around-view camera. The Lite also lacks the forward-collision warning system, the automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control that is available to the Hype and the top-spec Luxe.

Furthermore, the Lite only has two airbags. In turn, the Hype and the Luxe each get six airbags.

Changan CS35 Plus Variants: Conclusion

It is plain to see that the CS35 Plus has a pretty tight distribution of features. This is especially true of the top-spec Luxe. The only difference it has over the mid-spec Hype after all is its two-tone paint job and power tailgate.

In most cases, this might sound like a disadvantage considering the competitiveness of crossovers in the local market. In the case of this model however, the differences between the three’s prices are actually quite close to the point that even the so-called “Lite” actually has plenty going for it features-wise. There’s also the fact that the CS35 Plus as a whole is quite affordable with its sub-1 million price tag.

So, which one’s the right one for you? Well, extra convenience and style-points might be provided by the Luxe. The Hype meanwhile might mean you’ll have to manipulate the tailgate by yourself, but it already comes with most of the stuff that is present on the Luxe. Well, minus the cool paint job.

The Lite in turn might have fewer airbags and driver-assist features, but it has the same space and power as the slightly pricier Hype and Luxe.
