2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC launched in PH with P5.190 million price tag

It gets plenty of onboard tech and a new mild hybrid powertrain. 

The Auto Nation Group, the official Mercedes-Benz distributor for the local market, has made the next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC available for the Philippine market. The price for this model’s sole Avantgarde variant starts at Php 5,190,000.

So what is this all-new compact crossover offering to prospective buyers? For one thing, it promises to achieve a mix of modern luxury and a sense of adventure. Let’s discuss what that entails by reviewing the vehicle’s specs.

Exterior 

The all-new GLC is significantly larger than its predecessor. Specifically, its wheelbase now spans 2,888mm which is 15mm longer than the old model. Its body’s overall length was expanded by 58mm pushing that figure to 4,716mm. It then has a width of 2,076mm and a height of 1,640mm.

Its exterior styling does retain plenty of similarities with the prior version, despite the growth spurt. On its front is a similarly-shaped quadrilateral grille that houses a large Mercedes-Benz logo. The decorative bar running across the grille though was reduced to a singular piece. Its LED headlamps were also revised to look sharper.

The side of the new GLC carries over the same silhouette for the most part. But again, it rides on a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels finished in tremolite. The rear meanwhile gets a pair of sleek-looking LED taillights, a power tailgate, and a dual exhaust setup. 

Interior

Step inside the new GLC and you’ll find a cockpit that’s going for a clean and minimalist look. It looks uncluttered, but it gets plenty of detail like chrome trim pieces and leather-clad soft-touch surfaces.

The center console also eliminates the need for a gear shift lever and now houses a hidden cup holder section. Behind that is a soft elbow rest, which opens up into another storage cubby hole. 

Shifting through reverse and drive is instead done via a stalk positioned on the right of the tilt and telescopic steering column.

The rear seats offer a reasonable amount of legroom, rear air conditioning vents, and USB charging ports. All seats are clad in Artico leather with different color options.

Other interior features include power-adjustable front seats, soft-touch paddle shifters, a push-to-start button, ambient lighting, and 40:20:40 split folding rear seats. It likewise offers a default cargo space of 620 liters. 

Tech & Safety

Mercedes-Benz went big on tech on this iteration of the GLC and that is apparent on its new 11.9-inch central touchscreen. The said screen is responsible for controlling many of the vehicle’s functions including the automatic air-conditioning system and drive modes. The driver is likewise given a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Connectivity options for the central headunit include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while keeping one’s phone powered up is made easy thanks to a wireless charging pad. For sound meanwhile, the GLC gets a Burmester 3D surround sound system as standard.

Safety aboard the 2024 GLC is handled by several standard equipment like anti-lock braking, ISOFIX, hill-start assist, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring, and a total of seven airbags, among others.

Providing crash safety on this new Merc are a number of advanced driver-assistive features. It has an automatic emergency braking system that can detect pedestrians, and it gets a driver attention warning, a 360-degree view monitor, active lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, etc. Parking is likewise made easy on this ride thanks to its park assist feature. 

Engine & Performance

Under the hood of the all-new 2024 GLC is a 2.0-liter inline-4 gasoline engine supported by a mild hybrid system with a 48-volt integrated starter motor. At maximum, it put out 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque combined.

For transmissions, it uses a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Power is then sent to all four wheels. Ride quality meanwhile, is insured by adaptive multi-link suspension systems for the front and rear.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class 2024 is a 5-seater compact luxury crossover that sits on a similar platform as the brand's flagship model, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It is available in the Philippines in one variant which is priced at Php 5,190,000. Powering the vehicle is a 2.0-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that makes 197 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, with a 9G-TRONIC (9-speed automatic transmission) as the sole gearbox option.

In terms of dimensions, the GLC-Class measures 4,658 mm in length, 2,096 mm in width, and 1,644 mm in height, with a wheelbase rated at 2,873 mm. Locally, the German compact luxury crossover competes against the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Volvo XC60.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class was first introduced by Auto Nation Group in September 2018. It initially came out in three variants which are the GLC 200 as the base variant, the GLC 220d, and the top-spec AMG 4Matic. A facelifted version of the GLC was released in the latter part of 2019, which is the currently marketed 200 FL Exclusive variant.

The crossover sports an athletic yet sophisticated vibe, much comparable to the C-Class but comes with more height and width. Among the upgraded features of the GLC-Class are the front grille and the rear designs. They have been refreshed to a more modern look compared to the previous generation GLC’s fascia styling. Multi-beam LED headlamps and LED daytime running lamps are flanked on the chrome-accentuated front grille. The rear gets LED taillights and a new skid plate like the front. Inside the GLC Philippines is a spacious passenger cabin and an equally expansive trunk with a capacity of over 540 liters even with the rear seats upright. The German brand decked the GLC with a plethora of leather and high-grade materials. Seats are upholstered and padded in authentic Artico leather.

On the dashboard is a multifunction display instrument which is a newly added feature on this version of the GLC. Right below it is a flowing center console that contains the AC vents. The trunk is accessible through a keyless power liftgate.

Technology & Safety Features

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class comes with a 12.3-inch TFT panel which is becoming a standard among the German brand’s new-generation models. The infotainment system houses the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) which enables the driver to activate the vehicle’s features through voice command. Among its many capabilities are hands-free climate adjustment, song selection, and making phone calls. It is essentially an interactive infotainment system that can be activated by saying “Hey, Mercedes.” Audio comes out of a Burmester surround sound system.

Among its slew of safety features are a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, active park assist, self-parking mode, an all-digital instrument display, ABS with EBD and brake assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Platform & Chassis

The 5-seater crossover is engineered based on the C-Class platform. It is equipped with a multi-link suspension for both the front and rear. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs all over. The Mercedes-Benz GLC’s platform and suspension are primarily oriented towards city driving conditions.

Engine & Drivetrain

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine that produces up to 197 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.

Available colors for the Mercedes-Benz GLC are Selenite Grey, Polar White, Obsidian Black, Mojave Silver, Iridium Silver, Hyacinth Red, Graphite Grey, and Brilliant Blue.

Sold under one variant, the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class has one of the highest base prices in comparison to its rivals such as the Volvo XC60 and BMW X3.
