You might have known by now that the Toyota GR Yaris will never reach the US market. Toyota didn’t leave the Yanks hanging though, as the brand will give them the GR Corolla as their own equivalent. More recently however, the Japanese brand has revealed a limited-edition version of this model called the Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition.
The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition
With a limited 200-unit only run, the GR corolla Morizo Edition has some particularly special qualities that makes it a more potent track weapon. Let’s find out what these are.
Exterior
Design-wise, the GR Corolla Morizo Edition still bears the same silhouette as the regular GR Corolla. IHowever, its front end comes with added air ducts to cool its front brakes. It also rides on a set of Morizo Edition-specific 18-inch forged aluminum wheels. In contrast, the regular model uses cast alloy wheels.

The rear of this limited-edition GR model also gets a slightly smaller rear spoiler. It also lacks a rear wiper, and its rear cabin also lacks window regulators. Of note, it also has other parts removed from its interior for the sake of shedding weight.
In fact, the Morizo Edition comes with an estimated curb weight of 1,445 kgs., which 48 kgs. shy compared to the regular GR Corolla.
Interior
As mentioned, this special edition GR Corolla was made to be lighter than the regular model. This of course is reflected in its interior’s lack of rear seats, shrinking down its seating capacity to just two occupants.
Sorry kids, you'll have to take the bus.
Then again, it still has standout features. For instance, its front seats are clad in a combination of faux suede and synthetic leather, coming in a black and red color. And with the rear seats gone, Toyota says that one can also fit up to four spare tires at the rear.
Tech and Safety
Like the regular GR Corolla, the GR Corolla Morizo Edition will likely have the same amenities. We’re talking about a push-to-start button, USB charging ports, 12-volt auxiliary outlets, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, as well as an eight-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Again though, for the sake of saving weight, the Morizo version lacks rear speakers.

It is also expected that it will also get the same version of the Toyota Safety Sense as the regular model. This includes a pre-collision system, radar dynamic cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure alert, and pedestrian detection, among others.
Engine and Performance
Now for power, the GR Corolla Morizo Edition utilizes the same 1.6-liter G16E-GTS turbo inline-3 gasoline mill as the mainline variants. It can still make up to 300 horsepower, though it was tuned to make more torque at 400 Nm. Of note, the normal engine on the regular GR Corolla can produce up to 370 Nm of torque.
Of course, the Morizo Edition still comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. However, it has shorter gearing, which translates to better acceleration. What was sacrificed by doing this though is a slightly lower top speed. But for now, we don’t know the exact numbers for these.

As for availability, we are quite sure that we won’t be seeing it here in an official capacity. Even the regular GR Corolla isn’t likely to get a local release as well, as it is meant for the US market.
Then again, we already have the Toyota GR Yaris, which already offers plenty when it comes to track performance, right? But for now, though, the GR Corolla Morizo is officially Toyota’s hottest hatch.
