When it comes to selecting the right car, various buyers will undoubtedly come with their own preferences. According to a global survey, however, it seems that the fairer gender’s top priority in purchasing a vehicle is safety.
A study found that female car buyers prioritize safety
This study, commissioned by South African insurance company 1st for Women, and conducted by World Woman Car of the Year (WWCOTY) Juror Charleen Clarke takes into account the opinions of 14,000 female motorists from around the world. The study found that women consider safety as a top priority for cars. Meanwhile, performance, space, and practicality are tied in rank at second.
The study likewise noted that female motorists especially want better forward visibility from cars. More specifically, a higher seating position with a commanding view of the road was preferred.
A WWCOTY representative from Vietnam also said that women are always on the lookout for vehicles that are equipped with a reverse camera, blind spot monitoring, and anti-lock braking. A representative from the United States meanwhile, reported that her female colleagues prioritized vehicles that came with high safety ratings.
Clarke further added that the study indicated that more and more female motorists are becoming aware of the environmental impact of cars. According to her, their study found that women are keen on selecting “greener” mobility options when available.
A high commanding view of the road is typically provided by midsize SUVs like the Ford Everest
According to Chilean WWCOTY juror Fran Muñoz, this goes to show that women are actually more rational than emotional than buying cars. Munoz also stated that “Women are increasingly well informed and are always interested in having as much information as possible at hand when deciding to buy a car.”
How about our female readers? Do you agree with WWCOTY’s study? And regardless of gender, do you also prioritize safety when buying a car or do you hold performance and handling above all other considerations?
